Who’s The Boss was an instant hit in the eighties and early nineties.
Tony Danza played Tony Micelli, a down-on-his luck single dad who accepts a job as a live-in housekeeper with well-off single mum, Angela Bower.
At the time, the idea of a male housekeeper was comedy heaven. How hilarious! A man, cooking and cleaning for a successful woman. How progressive of them. How ‘modern’ of producers to attempt such a storyline.
It was daring at the time, and it was also TV magic.
Tony Danza was, and to me still is, incredibly attractive. A handsome, Italian man cleaning my house? Yes please.
He and Angela spend eight years dancing around the obvious truth – that they are incredibly attracted to each other, live together like a real family but resist the urge to take the leap for eight, long season.
THAT’S what kept us tuning in.
