This daytime host is caught in a bitter row with her ex-husband, and their surrogate child is at the centre.
The View host Sherri Shepherd’s surrogate gave birth to a baby boy on Tuesday. But while Sherri’s estranged husband Lamar Sally was there, Sherri was not.
The newborn has added further fuel to a bitter legal dispute between Sherri, 47, and screen writer Lamar.
Sherri has no genetic link to the child who was conceived through IVF via the egg of a donor and Lamar’s sperm. The decision not to use Sherri’s eggs came after a failed IVF attempt where her egg was used.
At the time she agreed to the process, but now, Sherri believes Lamar tricked her into having a child in order to receive child support, whilst he was planning to file for divorce at the same time, reports TMZ.
Sherri does not want to be considered as the newborn's parent and is against taking on financial responsibly for the child.
“Sherri doesn't want anything to do with the child and refuses to pay any child support. She is not budging and is completely detached. She feels very just in her actions and claims the child is not hers” a source told FOX411.
Last month, Sherri wrote on Twitter “Keep the prayers coming... Still got more battles - please judge me by my character and not from the tabloids who are having a slow news day.”
The birth came just a day after Sherri announced a new acting role as the evil step-mother in the Broadway version of Cinderella. Sherri will end seven years on The View this Friday.
Sherri has an 8-year-old son, Jeffrey, to her ex-husband Jeff Tarpley. Sherri and Lamar married in 2011 and filed for divorce in May.
