The X Files and Game of Thrones: Exactly where you've seen the cast of Sex Education before.

Although it’s only been two weeks since Netflix released season two of Sex Education, it’s safe to say the comedy-drama series has been absolutely devoured by fans.

The second season of the sex-positive series, which was released in mid-January, explores all the awkward intimacies of sexuality, identity, and relationships.

But while the Netflix series has been praised for their commitment to inclusivity and being representative of today’s society, there’s something else we’ve noticed about the cast of Sex Education.

Besides being super relatable characters, the cast of the comedy-drama series are also extremely recognisable.

In fact, we’re pretty sure we spent most of the season trying to figure out why everyone looked incredibly familiar. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

From The X Files to Game of Thrones, here’s exactly where you’ve seen the cast of Sex Education before.

Asa Butterfield (Otis Milburn)

If you've watched Sex Education's leading character, Otis Milburn (played by 22-year-old Asa Butterfield), then you’ve no doubt wondered to yourself: "Where do I know him from?".

In case you're wondering, Butterfield was the brown-haired and wide-eyed leading child actor from films like the critically-acclaimed, 2011 Martin Scorsese masterpiece Hugo – in which he played the titular character – as well as Bruno in the 2008 film adaptation of The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas.

Butterfield also starred in the TV series Merlin, Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children and Journey's End.

Gillian Anderson (Jean Milburn)

For Gillian Anderson, Sex Education isn't exactly a break-out performance.

In fact, the 51-year-old actress is well known for her roles in The X Files, The Fall and American Gods.

In 2020, Anderson will make her debut in the fourth series of Netflix's The Crown as Margaret Thatcher.

Lino Facioli (Dex Thompson)

Dex, who is part of the Moordale Quiz Heads, is played by Lino Facioli in Sex Education.

The 19-year-old actor previously appeared in Game of Thrones as Robin Arryn.

In case you've forgotten, Robin Arryn was that kid who was breastfed until adulthood before suddenly appearing (after a significant "glow-up") in the finale episode.

(Seriously, who could forget?)

Mimi Keene (Ruby)

Mimi Keene, who played Ruby in Sex Education, played troubled teen Cindy Williams in EastEnders.

Mimi played Cindy Williams for two years, from 2013 to 2015.

Besides Sex Education, she has since appeared in Close and Tolkien.

Hannah Waddingham (Sofia Marchetti)

Jackson's mum in Sex Education, Sofia Marchetti, is played by actress Hannah Waddingham.

You may remember the 45-year-old actress for her role as Septa Unella in Game of Thrones. (You know, the one who took Cersei Lannister on a walk of shame?)

Alistair Petrie (Michael Groff)

Alistair Petrie plays Michael Groff, the headteacher of Otis' school in Sex Education.

The actor has previously appeared in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story as General Draven and has also had roles in The Bank Job, The Duchess and Victor Frankenstein.

Rakhee Thakrar (Miss Sands)

Rakhee Thakrar plays English Literature teacher Miss Sands in the Netflix series.

The actress is most well known for her role as Shabnam Masood in EastEnders.

Mikael Persbrandt (Jakob Nyman)

Swedish actor Mikael Persbrandt, who played handyman Jakob in the series, is most well known for playing Beorn in The Hobbit franchise.

Jim Howick (Mr Hendricks)

Jim Howick plays awkward high school teacher Mr Hendricks in Sex Education.

The British actor is best known for his roles in Horrible Histories, Broadchurch, Hellboy and Peep Show.
