Ohio dad, Matt Cox, has made headlines for sharing his tough-love approach to disciplining his 10-year-old daughter after she was “kicked off” the school bus for bullying another student.
The two-minute long video shows the young girl walking along a road, while Cox is driving right behind her and speaking to the camera.
“This lovely lady is my 10-year-old daughter who has for the second time this school year been kicked off the school bus due to bullying another student,” he says.
“Let me make this very clear, bullying is unacceptable, especially in my household.”

Cox continues to explain that when his daughter told him about her bus suspension, she requested her dad drive her to school for the next week. It was at that point that the father decided to turn this moment into a lesson.
So, instead of taking her to school, he made his daughter walk 8km in the cold winter weather.
Brutal, but effective.
“A lot of children today feel that the things their parents do for them is a right, not a privilege. Such as parents taking their parents to school in the morning, or even bus rides to school in the morning,” he says.
“All of that is a privilege and should be treated as such.”
Since sharing the two minute clip a week ago, Cox’s disciplinary technique has been watched over 21 million times and amassed 214,000 likes, 83,000 comments and 410,750 shares, with the overwhelming response being positive, commending the Ohio man for his actions.
“This is parenting done right! Too many just let it go like they can’t stop it… children take their own lives or the lives of other because of bullying, we as parents must teach our children! I’m so glad she is well and learned her lesson,” wrote one comment.
“Agreed 100 percent this sh*t has to end and if we as parent have to go to extreme lengths (without hitting your child, just my opinion that I’m entitled to) to ensure it does end then so be it! I teach my kids to NEVER bully And I will to the end of the earth to make sure my kids never do this because it’s only going to help them and others as they grow! Kids can be jerks we all know this but we need to make sure we are doing our jobs as parents to make sure that everyone is going to benefit from good kids as they grow!” shared another user.
“Good for you sir. I like the way that you’re right there for her safety as well as [making] sure she goes to school,” wrote another.
However some thought the father’s approach went overboard, and said Cox shouldn’t have filmed and shared the footage of his daughter.
“This is absolutely not necessary,” wrote one Facebook user.
“Heck yes it’s [definitely] a good punishment but [I don’t know] this being all over social media can definitely ruin her too,” shared another.
“But why do you feel the need to broadcast it? As long as it’s done and she learns that’s all that matters. A video doesn’t need to be posted on social media for likes and shares. I feel that’s a step too far,” wrote another user.
Despite this, the dad continued to stand behind decision, and later updated his original post, stating that his daughter had learnt her lesson.
“Still has all her extremities intact [and] is happy and healthy and seems to have a new outlook on bullying as well as a new appreciation for some of the simple things in life she used to take for granted,” he wrote, updating the status,” he wrote.
So all in all, we can call this a successful parenting moment, even if not everybody agrees.

Yeah, 8 km is a bit far. A portion of that would be ok.
Some people are such attention seekers. People are doing awesome jobs disciplining their children all over the world but only a select few seem to think people want to watch them do it. I find it so strange.
