"Dear Drew Barrymore, I owe you and your TV show a huge apology."

When Drew Barrymore’s new Netflix show was first announced, it was safe to say we were less than impressed.

But that was before we knew it was a rom-com/family drama/horror show and starred Drew Barrymore as a flesh-eating mother and wife.

Santa Clarita Diet is set for global release on February 3 via Netflix. The show promises a darkly comic family drama, starring Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant as middle-aged couple Sheila and Joel Hammond.

Both powerhouse realtors, the pair lead relatively normal lives with their daughter Abby (Liv Hewson) in the leafy American suburb of Santa Clarita, California.

The Binge hosts Laura Brodnik and Tiffany Dunk share why they were so wrong about Drew Barrymore’s new show.

The family’s lives, however, take a turn for the WTF after Sheila (Barrymore) undergoes a dramatic transformation.

Sheila kind of… dies.

Except not really. She remains very much alive, as a sort of high-functioning zombie. Barrymore’s character is ‘undead’. While still operating as a bubbly wife, mother and realtor… she feels no pain.

And also EATS PEOPLE.

Sheila’s new diet ends up bringing the family closer: they band together hunting down unwanted members of the community, for her to, well, consume.

The Binge host Laura Brodnik was very vocal about the new Netflix show after it was announced late last year, even going so far as to call the initial premise a boring waste of time.

“It was billed as a suburban drama where something interesting happens… I wasn’t interested in watching.”

But with the recent release of the trailer, Laura has changed her mind.

"The other day I was sent the trailer... and my jaw hit my desk... Drew, I'm so sorry I doubted you because this show looks amazing. It's such an original idea with everything else that's in the market at the moment."

'Original' is an understatement. A zombie thriller (sort of) suitable for the family is groundbreaking to say the least.

The Binge co-host Tiffany Dunk agrees.

"Usually I hear the word zombie and I'm like ughhhhh... not my bag. But she's a really likeable zombie, and she's also not rotting, so that helps... her whole family basically get involved in becoming murderers so they can feed their mother and keep her... undead."

"I love the premise", she adds.

It's a breath of fresh-air in the sometimes monotonous Netflix offerings, with so many questions to answer.

So Drew, once again, we are very sorry for doubting you. It won't happen again.

Season 1 of Santa Clarita Diet drops on Netflix February 3.

It's not completely original - the premise is vaguely similar to iZombie, that features a self-aware zombie going out of their way not to kill. Still, the trailer for this looks great.
