When Drew Barrymore’s new Netflix show was first announced, it was safe to say we were less than impressed.
But that was before we knew it was a rom-com/family drama/horror show and starred Drew Barrymore as a flesh-eating mother and wife.
Santa Clarita Diet is set for global release on February 3 via Netflix. The show promises a darkly comic family drama, starring Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant as middle-aged couple Sheila and Joel Hammond.
Both powerhouse realtors, the pair lead relatively normal lives with their daughter Abby (Liv Hewson) in the leafy American suburb of Santa Clarita, California.
The Binge hosts Laura Brodnik and Tiffany Dunk share why they were so wrong about Drew Barrymore’s new show.
The family’s lives, however, take a turn for the WTF after Sheila (Barrymore) undergoes a dramatic transformation.
Sheila kind of… dies.
Except not really. She remains very much alive, as a sort of high-functioning zombie. Barrymore’s character is ‘undead’. While still operating as a bubbly wife, mother and realtor… she feels no pain.
And also EATS PEOPLE.
Sheila’s new diet ends up bringing the family closer: they band together hunting down unwanted members of the community, for her to, well, consume.
The Binge host Laura Brodnik was very vocal about the new Netflix show after it was announced late last year, even going so far as to call the initial premise a boring waste of time.

It's not completely original - the premise is vaguely similar to iZombie, that features a self-aware zombie going out of their way not to kill. Still, the trailer for this looks great.
well, sounds a bit like iZombie...
