We knew last night’s episode of The Bachelorette was going to be a game-changer.
For weeks, the tension between contestants Sam and Rhys had been steadily growing, to the point where Sam had started to just outwardly bully Rhys on national television. But despite their incessant competitive banter, these guys were meant to be there for Georgia Love, so she took the two of them on a fight-to-the-death date. Two men would enter, and only one would return.
Except that neither of them returned, because they were both d*cks.
For Sam, his downfall was getting a little over-excited by the unconventional date format, leading to him bluntly telling Georgia why he entered The Bachelorette in the first place.
Once he found out Rhys had been eliminated (for saying he wasn't looking for "the one," and frankly being rude AF to Georgia), it was as though Sam believed he had already won. He had beaten Rhys, and now he just wanted to tell this pretty girl in front of him all about his life plans.
The 27-year-old explained that last year he'd travelled to the US and signed with an agency in Miami. His plan after The Bachelorette was to return and pursue modelling, acting and presenting.
In a piece of camera, a perplexed Georgia asked: "Aren't you in Australia, looking for a partner?"
Completely oblivious to Georgia's horror, Sam continued, saying, "I think presenting's kinda cool and being on camera and the media and, yeah, it was kind of heading that direction before this, but this has just given me like a little kick to get moving quicker."
He even asked Georgia for tips.
Dude, no.
"It was like a freight train right into the face," narrated Georgia.
She asked Sam directly whether he thought of this as just a chance to be on camera, and he enthusiastically said yes. IT WAS LIKE HE GENUINELY HAD NO IDEA WHO THIS WOMAN WAS SO WANTED TO TELL HER ALL HIS SECRETS.
With a sly smile, he told her, "If I left this experience without you, I wouldn't, you know, be absolutely heartbroken."
It's the first time in Bachelorette history that a contestant has been completely transparent about going on the show in order to launch a career in the media. With a large number of personalities from both The Bachelor and The Bachelorette landing roles on television, it's highly likely that Sam wasn't the first person to go on the show for the exposure - he's just the first person who admitted it.

I have a hard time believing anyone is genuinely going on a TV program to find love, so it seems to me like he's the only truly honest one/the only one stupid enough to not realise that being so honest might actually damage his future TV prospects.
I think Sam mistakenly thought he had walked onto the set of 'The Apprentice'....
