'I tried the hair dye that promises to cover up my roots in 10 minutes. Here's my verdict.'

It may be surprising to learn, but I am a lazy girl when it comes to hair maintenance.

Why? Well, between my corporate job, my writing for Mamamia, social events and parenting kids with activities, it would be an understatement to say I'm pretty time poor.

But I not only want something easy, I want something cost effective, too.

Currently, I haven't cut my hair since the end of January, and I have not had my hair coloured in a salon in nearly a decade. Not only because I haven't had the time either — truth be told, I just don't want to spend the money.

So when I found out the Clairol Permanent Root Touch-Up Hair Colour promises to cover up roots in 10 minutes, I knew I had to give it a go.

It was great timing too because I was well overdue — my wiry greys were beginning to unpleasantly appear in my part, so much so that I felt like my hair was transforming into Professor Sprout's (I make no apologies for this Harry Potter reference).

Before I jump into giving you all the details (spoiler: it's a game-changer), let me give you some tips for colouring your hair at home.

First up, take your time to make sure you select the correct shade.

My hair really grabs colour so can sometimes turn out a shade or two darker. To avoid this, I always look at the back of the box where they show results on three different shades. I look at the darkest one knowing that my hair locks in the colour, leading to a darker pigment.

Make sure you don't just jump in, mix it up and plonk it on your noggin.

Take the time and read the instructions first. They are there for a reason – to help you get the best results possible. Follow them and you will.

Now on to the good stuff: is Clairol Permanent Root Touch-Up Hair Colour actually a game-changer? Yes, my dear friend, it is.

From the time I opened the box to when I finished blow-drying my hair, only 30 minutes had passed. Yep, 30 minutes.

The kit is so easy to use. The small tubes and container consist of enough product to more than cover your part and all around your hairline. And if like me, you part your hair in a couple different places, there is more than enough product.

It only took me about five minutes to mix and thoroughly apply to my needed areas. The precision brush also made it super easy to coat my hair and not make a mess.

After 10 minutes, I hopped in the shower for a quick rinse off and condition before drying my hair.

I felt like there was no way this was going to work as it all seemed too easy (and fast) but the results spoke for themselves — it blended seamlessly with my current shade and covered up all the pesky greys that had been mocking me for the past few weeks.

I am loving both the results and how quick and easy it is to do. I could literally do this in the morning before work or before an event if needed and wouldn't be annoyed with myself for leaving it last minute.

Just when I thought I couldn't simplify my hair maintenance more, this comes along and leaves me looking refreshed whilst taking next to no time.

Another plus is that given it is specific for just doing your roots and is not a full hair colour kit, it means you are not constantly going over previous colour resulting in build-up on your ends.

So, what's my final verdict? Well, in case you haven't guessed, colour me impressed (ha).
