"Is she still in there? My dad killed her, didn't he?”

Yesterday, a suburban street in Riverwood, 18km south of Sydney’s CBD, rang with the screams of a young man devastated after learning the terrible fate of his mother.

“Is she still in there? My dad killed her, didn’t he?” the adult son of mother-of-five Sharon Michelutti screamed as he tried to duck under police tape cordoning off the family home turned crime scene.

“I just want to see my mum,” he yelled from the curb in the handcuffs police used to restrain him, Fairfax Media reports.

Ms Michelutti’s body was discovered in her bedroom with stab wounds shortly after midday on Monday.

She was reportedly found deceased by another son, who ran down the street screaming. A neighbour said the son could barely speak but made a hand gesture across his throat when asked what was wrong.

Fairfax Media reports that earlier that day her de facto partner, 50-year-old Gavin Debeyer, went to a police station to report Ms Michelutti had attempted to kill herself.

Mr Debeyer was restrained by police nearby and later charged with her murder.

Neighbours say the couple had been in a relationship since Ms Michelutti was 14 years old and regularly fought loudly inside the home.

Court documents allege Mr Debeyer murdered his partner between 9.45am and 12.04pm on Monday, News Limited reports.

He made no application for bail during a brief appearance at Burwood Local Court, where he appear again via videolink on March 30.
