Rachel Standfest was three weeks away from giving birth when she woke to a fire in her home.
The US mum, who was pregnant with her first child, had no choice but to "quickly find a way out of a two-story building".
Rachel climbed out the window, while her partner, Travis, ran downstairs through the flames.
"We both sustained severe burns, and I had a brain injury," Rachel later shared in a Facebook post.
After being rushed to hospital, Rachel underwent an emergency C-section. Despite her injuries and the early birth, she welcomed a "healthy" baby girl.
But it wasn't until she and Travis gained consciousness that they were able to meet their daughter.
Sharing a video of the moment on TikTok, Rachel said it was "a way we never expected to have met our daughter for the first time".
"[It was] a moment we’ve waited so long for, and a moment I don’t remember."
@travandrach A way we never expected to have met our daughter for the first time. A moment we’ve waited so long for, and a moment I don’t remember. We’ve had so many “firsts” we haven’t been able to do with our sweet girl, and as hard as it has been, we know that it was always Gods plan. Brynlee means “burned clearing”, and her name alone has shown us that the Lord has had his hand with us since the beginning. He alone is the ultimate healer and we will never stop giving Him the glory as we continue our healing journey. He is so faithful🙏🏼 #Godisgood #fyp #jesus #miracle #testimony #blessed #thankful #faith #elevationworship #mercyme #youngcouple #babygirl #newborn #hewouldlovefirst #likeforpart2 #youngmom #girldad ♬ Good Old Days
In the video, Rachel shared the couple chose to name their daughter Brynlee, meaning "burned clearing".
It was a name they originally had picked out when they first learnt they were having a girl.
"Her name alone has shown us that the Lord has had his hand with us since the beginning," she wrote.
