If you’re new to this thing, here’s how Open Post works.
I share what’s been going on in my world this week, and everyone else in the Mamamia community joins in. Share stories, seek advice, talk amongst yourselves or to me – let’s do this.
This week, we’ve got one of our interns, Lindsay, on becoming a grown-up. You’ll either be nodding along or be all like, “21? You’re KIDDING.” Over to Lindsay (and you)…
I think I’m having a quarter life crisis.
It all started when I realised 21 would officially be my last significant birthday till I turn 30. T-H-I-R-T-Y.
Three years ago it seemed like a lifetime away, but now that I am finishing uni in June I can already see the bills and responsibilities piling up – phone bill: $100, car insurance: $1000, health insurance.
JUST TAKE MY SOUL WHY DON’T YOU.
I’ve already started reminiscing about the good old days of 18, where responsibilities were low and alcohol-intake high. No one expects anything from an 18-year-old. Yes, it was only three years ago but the days where I could stay out past 12am without thinking about work the next day are long gone.
It’s a weird age, 21. All of a sudden you’re in the real world. People expect things of you.
People I know are even getting engaged and having babies and successful careers. And I’m like huh? I caught a train to work for the first time today and it was the proudest moment of my life thus far. True story.
It’s weird because you want to be treated like an adult, to be respected and taken seriously. But you still miss the days of pocket money and dinner on the table by 7pm. It’s a catch-22.
So there you have it. My quarter life crisis – if I live till 84, that is.
But hey, it’s not all bad. Tonight I’m seeing Fifty Shades of Grey.
What’s going on in your world?

The craziest thing about my week is my younger sister (who is 21, I'm 24) is getting married on Saturday. Her, along with the rest of my family LOVE to rub it in that not only do I not have a boyfriend, I'm also the last single female in my family (including cousins etc).
Mind you, this is completely by choice. I will never again be with/stay with someone who is not worthy. I've done my dash and it never ends well. I'm also seriously enjoying my single life. The last 18 months have been the best time of my life! =D #allthesingleladies
Oh and Lindsay - you still have 25! That's a big birthday, the quarter of a century. I am DREADING turning 25 as I no longer have youth on my side to excuse my irresponsible behaviour!
My big little sister got married to her childhood sweetheart 2 weeks after she turned 20, meanwhile I was single, and had been for 4 years before that. Being 25 at their very Christian wedding surrounded by 20- 25 year old married couples was rather odd, and was told by one of the oldies that I was like 'Christmas pudding on Boxing Day'! That one still gets brought up every now and then :) Enjoy it!
Christmas pudding on boxing day?! Im sorry but that is on hilarious analogy! Just gave me a good laugh :)
I know! It took me a few seconds to figure out what she meant too... Thanks for telling me I'm past my prime when I'm 25 nana! It still gives me a giggle :)
You're definitely not past your prime at 25 :) Gotta love grandmothers... they definitely dont hold back!
I hear ya! I'm 25 and have been studying since I left high school, gradually reducing my load as work takes over (been studying and working in the same industry pretty much since the beginning). So that's going fine. But a lot of my friends are starting to get married and have kids and suddenly I feel so young and immature because that's really far off for me even though I'm in a long term relationship!
