There is a social injustice issue in our education system. I feel for my colleagues in the Public schools in impoverished areas of every big city in Australia. You aren’t teaching your students on the same playing field as your colleagues in the private systems. I admire those teachers who can still turn up to work everyday trying to make a difference in the lives of their students when there are so many obstacles impeding their success. You are miracle workers even though the general public and politicians don’t acknowledge it. Yes you need to be compensated justly for your work, but also consideration must be given to increasing the time available to enable you to do your jobs better. You also need to be accorded the same professional development opportunities as your Private school teacher counterparts. Your students need to have access to the same technological assets and classroom facilities as most other Private school students. Lastly, these students need to be given high expectations and encouragement from their parents. Many times a teacher’s biggest battle is with parents who don’t have aspirations for their children nor support the teachers who do. So thank you teachers, where ever you teach. You deserve more than just money for what you do and who you are to the future adults of our country.
