Someone in comments said they believe the film is particularly catering towards women age 30-50 and they're in the middle of that and love it. I'm in the middle too and actually, I don't think I fall into either category. I guess you'd categorize me as a hater but I just don't have the energy to be hating the movie. I disagree with none of the messaging itself, after all. It was just so meh. I was honestly, so bored most of the time during the movie. And I went in wanting to love it so much! It was so heavy handed, most of the moments I recognized were meant as jokes I didn't find all that funny (the only time I chuckled out loud was at Will Ferrell's character). The only moments that I could immerse myself in some kind of story or character were Barbie just looking around in the real world taking it in, and then talking to the old lady. I was hoping the film would build on those to get into an actual story but then it veered right back into the empty camp land. And those two moments weren't really enough for me to find the ending let alone the whole movie (I first wrote story, but in my opinion this film is more of a manifesto than an actual story) satisfying or meaningful.
