Thank you for this article-I completely resonate with this story. I was diagnosed with Ménière’s disease (inner ear disorder that causes vertigo and, for me, severe hearing loss) in March last year, as we entered into lockdown with three young children, two who were at school. I think between learning to deal with my illness and Covid, I learnt not to sweat the small stuff, just being there when you could and doing simple things for the kids was all that mattered. Whilst I am still working through treatments (there isn’t a cure, but hopefully something will work to help keep symptoms light on), my kids have learnt to understand about how Mum can’t hear sometimes (my 8 year old translates for me when I can’t hear people wearing masks!) and that I need rest-they have had to adapt to so much this last year, but their resiliency and understanding has been as good as it can be for their age. There are times (between rhoids!) where my energy levels are better and I try to take advantage of that where I can. All the best to you and your family.
