Mental Distress is not a 'mental illness'. You should think about what has happened to you, not what is 'wrong' with you.

The manufacturers of Thymatron ECT machines, Somatics, were recently forced to add 'Permanent brain damage' to their list of 'side effects' after they were sued (and settled out of court) by damaged patients. 

ECT gives permanent brain damage. Any immediate effect is due to concussion. A temporary euphoria which fades after 4 - 6 weeks and the patient goes back to how they were plus they now have brain damage. People can forget their education and many years of their past life. They can have cognitive deficits and be unable to make new memories. ECT machines have never been tested for safety on humans by the machine manufacturers, the FDA (US) or the MHRA (UK).
