Many years ago I was told by a child care worker that my then 3 year old exhibited all the same gluten allergy issues her own daughter had exhibited many years earlier. I was aghast and thought she was bonkers. I wanted to rebel and ignore it - I know my kid best, she’s fine!

I then took “me” out of it and decided to seek independent medical advice on this comment. My gp then did a general medical on my 3 year old and noted she was Below the line on the “normal” size and weight guides for a child of her age and that while she had always gained weight since birth, it was below the “normal” trajectory.

I’ve always thought that it takes many people to make these size guides and graphs that we follow but ok, if you’re way outside the “normal” range, is there a reason? Should it be explored?

The final result was that my child was coeliac. She’s now 17 and fit and well.

After the fact I’m very glad someone was brave and said something they noticed!
