They didn't add a backstory about the Alien invaders to add a touch of realism.

Invaders do not introduce themselves before they attack and kill you, unless they are after taking you as slaves, they will just attack and kill you leaving you in your final moments not knowing anything about them, who they are, where they are from, what it is that they want.

In the 8th century when a British monastery on the island of Lindisfarne was visited by a group of armed men one morning, the Monks inside didn't know who they were, where they were from or what their intentions were. Within minutes though they were all being slaughtered by them.

That's what happens in real life..

By the way we later realised that this was one of the very first Viking raids to take place here on the British Isles..
