Can we please discuss the belief that learning only happens when a child is in school? The number one thing a child needs to understand before they enter the 13 years of formal education is that their parent loves them, believes in them, and is interested in them. That can only be taught by spending time with them, something that people seem determined to see as a burden that gets in the way of working.
You seem to be criticising high school teachers for not doing a good enough job, but also criticising the employers of adult educators for checking that they are doing a good enough job. As a high school teacher I can vouch for my colleagues - teachers will never not care about their students, even if (like you) they have received only ad hoc training in delivering online lessons. As for spending little time onscreen talking at students and giving them time to complete work, my students specifically asked for this. Adult students don't have to digest 7 hours of lessons, one after the other, each school day; primary & high school students do. Time to think, discuss and try is essential to the learning process. As is parent support.
