@mamamia-user-482898552 She relocated at 8 years old, and obtained Swedish citizenship...nationality is not ethnicity.

I took issue mostly with the fact that Emma Mackay's barbie was expected to want to wear pants because she was a physicist...as am I...but I suppose I do wear pants 95% of the time so it's actually fairly accurate! 😆

Wow I couldn't agree less with this analysis. As a self described overthinking pessimist with a personality containing a huge servings of anxiety and tendency towards depressive states that must be actively fought against I absolutely loved the Barbie movie. I could write a huge thesis about this honestly but the more I think about it the better the movie is. Yes it is a hilarious, visually appealing cinematic experience you can wholeheartedly enjoy as a comedy with a group of (especially female) friends. I believe the film is particularly catering towards women age 30-50 and I'm bang in the middle.

It is so much more than just that...its an extremely strong example of satire done well, the ridiculous moments made it extremely funny but especially as the movie moved into the middle and end acts this was balanced with the right amount of earnestness and also yes serious commentary on society. No it is not overly dwelled upon - you can't solve such issues in a 2hr comedy! I believe this is intentionally left to you as a viewer to reflect upon later, and believe me it touches your soul. There were moments that were absolutely poignant if you are a daughter, mother, sister, or (I assume) a brother, husband or good friends to the former. I fought back tears more than once. But the makers wanted people to leave the cinema in a good mood! However I challenge anyone to go back and listen to the Billie Eillish song again after watching the film and not sob.
