I am estranged from my father, who had a traumatic upbringing and a difficult life. Unfortunately, this led to me being emotionally abused by him and my stepmother after my mother died of cancer. Despite everything, I wish him peace, but from a distance. Life without parents is incredibly hard; they provide us with love and a platform to explore the world.

My father's absence has made life particularly challenging. I've stayed in abusive relationships longer than I should have because I lacked a sense of direction and support. On bad days, there's no one left to call. This has made me question if I'm the problem, especially since I harbor so much bitterness and pain.

When it seemed like my father wanted to repair our relationship, I felt it was more about his need to be seen as a present father rather than genuine care for me. He never described me in a beautiful way, perhaps because I am more like my mother.

I know these thoughts are scattered, but I truly believe that sometimes letting go is the best thing we can do. Your post made me cry because I wish my parents had shown up for me or looked for me the way you do for your daughter but I also know that to end as relationship with a parental figure is one of the hardest things a child can do.
