The people saying this isn’t a problem is in fact the problem right there. Thinking this is not impacting the younger generation when actually there is some chance it is. I am 32 years and have suffered from an eating disorder for the last 13. I grew up with a mum who weighed herself and showed her disappointment with the numbers on the scale as casually as they do in this episode. Now at 32 as she continues these conversations it triggers me to hear it and as a result I don’t want my children to ever connect their worth to a number on the scale. I know I am just one example - but I am still an example. Yes it is important to prioritise our health and have conversations about this with our kids. Yes being overweight is a health issue and it is not one we should sweep under the carpet. No we do not need to wrap our kids in cotton wool and cannot hide them from every problem in the world. No Bluey is not expected to be responsible for educating kids about every topic. But we can have conversations around health without perpetuating the cycle of negative body image that is so prominent in todays society and we can have these conversations without the validation of a number on the scales. As others have said - the 30 second scale scene doesn’t need to be there.
