Thanks for the great article. I think it’s so relevant. I also wanted to add that as a mum of a young child who wanted part-time work the options were so scarce. Everybody wanted full time for the best positions (copywriter). In interviews that I assumed were freelance or contract they would say we need you full time with back to back contracts if you join us. My husband works as a cabinet maker and wanted to work 4 days a week as a cabinet maker so he can spend time with our son and work on his own projects but could only negotiate that with his old employer - any new ones were shocked he didn’t have any to work 5. Lastly, in France they actually increased the work day to 35 hours not decreased. We were living there until February and although my husband technically worked 35 hours every single day, his employers pushed for over time and were always disappointed he didn’t do as much as he used to because he now had a child. Side note. He once took a day off to care for our son and they were shocked a man was doing that. 😳 I think society is conditioned to work and it’s since Covid we have starting to really re-evaluate our life choices and that’s a wonderful thing!
