@chrissyinthemiddle She was badly bullied during high school, then mercilessly harassed by the British press and paparazzi for a good decade after she started dating William. She's been in this game a long time and is a seasoned pro when it comes to dealing with trolls!
@kathshelley I think he's shown an admirable level of restraint in his response to this woman's attempted character assassination. I mean, he even offered her her money back for the ticket (something she conveniently left out of all her interviews.) He'd be within his rights to sue for defamation, but has instead chosen the high road. Good on him!
@Cait It is not anyone's "human right" to attend a comedy show. It's definitely not anyone's "human right" to flagrantly ignore age restrictions by taking a baby to a show that quite clearly says "ages 15+ only". Arj addresses this in his statement. He also quite clearly says that he couldn't even see that she was breastfeeding, so this woman bringing that up and trying to paint Arj as "anti-breastfeeding" was extremely unfair and bordering on slander.
@lizbette Why can't it be both? Lack of mental health care and violence against women are both huge issues in Australia, and they often overlap with tragic consequences. This doesn't need to be an either/or situation. Also, for the police to come out and publicly say that he was targeting women, they must have some evidence to back that up.
Princess Anne and her two children, Peter and Zara, are also very close to William and Catherine (and their kids.) They seem like a lovely, close-knit family. It's nice to see MM shining a light on some of the positive aspects of the royal family, and the work they do for the British people. Especially after the horrible month of non-stop gossip and nasty rumours the poor Princess of Wales has had to endure.
@mamamia-user-482898552 You're definitely onto something. Numerous studies have shown, over and over again, that single, childless women are happier than married women with kids. Those same studies have shown that the opposite is true for men. As a society, I think we really need to stop and ask ourselves "Why is that?"
@rush this is a good point. I have a feeling the kind of people making such nasty comments would be unhappy no matter what lifestyle they chose.
@mamamia-user-482898552 hear hear! The Princess is on medical leave. In literally any other job, no one would be wondering where you are, concocting bizarre conspiracy theories, pestering your family members for information, or demanding ridiculous "proof-of-life" photographs! But because Catherine is a public figure, apparently the press feel entitled to know all her most private, personal medical information. It's sick, and reminds me very much of how Diana was treated in the years leading up to her death.
@chrissyinthemiddle the same publications pushing these cruel conspiracy theories now will be falling over themselves 5-10 years from now when Prince George gives his first interview and talks about how horribly his mother was treated while she was recovering from major surgery. Their active role in encouraging the trolling and abuse will be memory-holed, and they'll act like they were against it from the start.
@rush because when a celebrity, especially a female celebrity, has a reputation as squeaky-clean as Catherine's, the tabloid media will latch onto literally anything, no matter how ridiculously small and inconsequential, to try and pull her down a few rungs. Tale as old as time.
@lisaskeeter or maybe when your mother was Princess Diana, and you saw first hand how the British gutter press treated her, you refuse to play into their hands by opening your mouth about anything. The media wants William to speak out and get angry about the way they've treated his wife these past few weeks. They're goading him on, desperate for something, anything, that they can latch onto and use to sell papers. He's refusing to give them that, and I say, good on him!
@nicole23436 it's giving wannabe-GOOP vibes to me.
@laura__palmer I've always got the impression that many of these women come from reasonably well-off families themselves, so I'm not sure they'd be at risk of homelessness or even unemployment if they were to leave their husbands. They certainly have a very "All will be well, God will provide!" attitude that I've only ever seen among the children of very wealthy parents, who've never had to worry about where their next meal will come from. But that's all the more reason for "regular" mums to NOT aspire to their lifestyle!
@laurenella these "Trad Wife" influencers are most definitely far wealthier than your average SAHM. Even in the US, where houses are cheaper, living the lifestyle they do is NOT something most people can afford on a single income. Their husbands must earn a very good salary behind the scenes, which means that these women probably get a fair bit of outside help. It wouldn't surprise me if most of them have a professional cleaner and gardener come in once a fortnight at least, specifically to take care of all that "dirty work" you mentioned like scrubbing showers or deep-cleaning carpets. Social media isn't real, and it's never been easier to fake a "perfect" life than it is now. All the more reason for young, vulnerable mums to stay far away from the "Trad Wife" accounts!
@rush I disagree. I think they look very similar. Why, it's almost like they're of the exact same person!!
The case was never that strong to begin with, so I'm not surprised a judge threw it out. While Samantha has undoubtedly been treated poorly by her sister, defamation is notoriously hard to prove in a court of law. I understand how it feels to be betrayed by a family member, so I do have sympathy, but I think the Markles all need to move on and try to find peace in their own lives, now.
@mamamia-user-482898552 ugh, don't get me started on 'The Crown'! Too many people treat that show like a documentary, instead of the loosely-based-on-history drama it actually is. (And even if her mother did encourage her relationship with William, so what? By all accounts, they were and still are a couple very much in love with one another. And isn't that what every loving mother wants, for her child to be happy?)
@rush I always related to Bobby, with his deeply conservative Christian upbringing and the religious trauma that resulted from it. I wish nothing but the best for him!
I never cared much for JVN. They always struck me as quite narcissistic, underneath all of the superficial charm, and now unfortunately it seems my initial instinct was correct. I know they had a hard life in the past, but that's no excuse to treat others poorly. What a shame.
@mamamia-user-482898552 I vividly remember paparazzi shouting "S**T!" and "B**CH!" at Kate as she walked out of her home back in 2006, in an attempt to get a reaction from her. Their behaviour was absolutely vile, misogynistic, and disgusting beyond words! Meghan actually benefited from a very different media landscape by the time she started dating Harry in 2016. By that point, tabloids and paparazzi no longer held the power they once did, and aside from one or two tasteless headlines, she was basically left alone. What a short memory some journalists have.
