I had a similar experience. During an internal pelvic exam, the female GP suddenly went, “Ohhhhh….” Naturally, I panicked, wondering what could be wrong - I was genuinely afraid it might be cancer. Then she casually added, “I meant that you haven’t had any children.” I was in my mid-30s at the time, and her comment left me feeling quite dejected. She had assumed, based solely on my age, that I’d have children. For someone who hasn’t had that opportunity, it was thoughtless and dismissive. A GP should be more mindful; after all, "general practitioner" should mean just that - a practitioner who considers everyone’s unique circumstances.
