I know exactly where you are coming from. One lady in particular was on the P&C and her three children were school Captains, won awards every year. She knew the teachers so well and fawned over them it was sickening. Her kids were nice and all 3 were popular, however giving the awards to the same family year in year out was ridiculous. My son had learning difficulties so never received an academic award the whole time he was at school. One year he was the only child in his class not to receive an award. That year he was age swimming champion and junior athletics champion. The school decided to change the award to overall sportsmanship and gave it to another child. When he attended high school he constantly received recognition for sport and academically after great teachers and tutoring at his school. He also came first in his year in one subject and first in his class in another. Encouragement, hard work and self discipline was rewarded and not the fav child with the Mum spending all her time with the teachers.
I would like to see this speech played at sporting clubs and that includes surf lifesaving clubs, to see what can be achieved if men learn to behave towards women in an acceptable manner. My husband, who is a middle son of three sons and the Father of our 3 sons, still needs to learn what behaviour is acceptable and what is not. Whether his parents just didn’t bother or perhaps it is just ingrained in boys at the start of puberty, to see or talk about girls in a sexualise way.
I have met and worked with some fabulous dedicated teachers and some not so good.
One teacher who stands out in my mind was the Primary School Principal of my two youngest sons. He was at school very early every morning and last to leave every night doing the administrative work necessary in the role of Principal. This enabled him to step out of the office every morning and welcome every child by name and wave goodbye in the afternoon, join in their games during play and help the disruptive child during their timeout from class with one on one teaching.
He was very popular with the staff and parents and we were all very disappointed when he left to take up a position at a larger school. A promotion that he had been offered at another school previously and un be known to us all he decided to decline as he felt he had not completed his vision for our school.
Truly a dedicated educator.
Totally agree with you.
We cook our turkey, ham and roast vegetables in the BBQ.
The only time we have seafood is when another family member does Christmas Dinner.
