It’s the moment everyone remembers from Prince William and Kate Middleton’s 2011 royal wedding.

Nope, it wasn’t their first kiss as a married couple.

And it wasn’t Kate’s gorgeous wedding dress either.

Instead, it was Princess Beatrice’s infamous hat that stole the show, launching the creation of hundreds of memes.

At the time, a Facebook page titled Princess Beatrice’s ridiculous wedding hat was created, with thousands of people ‘liking’ the page which has since been removed.

Now, in a resurfaced interview, Sarah Ferguson has shared what she really thought about her daughter’s infamous Philip Treacy hat.

Speaking to Australia’s own 60 Minutes back in 2013, Fergie, who didn’t attend William and Kate’s wedding, described watching her daughter “being watched and judged by millions”.

"Were you surprised when you saw the hat? What did you think?" the 60 Minutes journalist asked the Duchess of York.

"I think she's so perfect in every way," Fergie responded.

"I think Beatrice had the most incredible outfit on, she looked really good."

But despite believing her daughter looked stunning at the event, Fergie admitted that she probably would have intervened about the hat had she been there.

"I think if I'd been here, maybe I would have made sure that the hat, a couple days before, was different."

In an interview with British Vogue last year, Princess Beatrice and her sister Princess Eugenie recalled the backlash they faced after wearing the one-of-a-kind Philip Treacy fascinators.

While attending an event at Buckingham Palace shortly after the 2011 royal wedding, the famous sisters saw really "horrible" coverage about their outfits.

"There was a horrible article that had been written about Beatrice and she got really upset," Princess Eugenie said.

"We were just about to step out and she had a bit of a wobble and cried," she added.

"I was looking after her. And then about an hour later, I had a wobble and started crying and Bea was there for me."

Despite the backlash, Princess Beatrice has since had the last laugh at her critics, auctioning off her infamous hat for charity.

"$135,000 for charity was no mean feat. It was totally her idea," Fergie said.

"I really take my hat off to her for doing it."
