Prince George and his parents leave the christening

UPDATE: NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) has reported a 802 waterbomber aircraft has crashed west of Ulladulla in NSW.

The aircraft was involved in firefighting operations.

The body of the 43-year-old male pilot was found near the plane. He was the only person on board.

Crews are responding to the scene and we’ll bring you more information as it comes.

1. Prince George has been christened overnight wearing a delicate lace gown that is an exact replica of one worn 172 years ago by Queen Victoria’s first born.

George is the first future monarch in modern times not to be baptised at Buckingham Palace, with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge choosing the intimate Chapel Royal at St James’s Palace instead.

Crowds gathered outside the Chapel to catch a glimpse of the family.

Catherine wore a cream Alexander McQueen outfit and a matching hat by milliner Jane Taylor.

His godparents were an unusual choice, mainly university friends. And… for those who are interested, The Queen wore a matching blue outfit and hat

4. Prime Minister Tony Abbott has warned anyone planning to marry under the ACT’s new same-sex marriage laws to wait for the High Court to rule whether the legislation is valid or not. The Federal Government is challenging the legislation in the High Court, arguing that it is not consistent with the Commonwealth Marriage Act. Mr Abbott says the Commonwealth is challenging the laws for “purely legal” reasons – and not as an argument based on morality.

However the PM has said he will attend the “wedding” of his sister, Christine Forster’s and partner Virginia.

“If there’s a ceremony of some kind, yes, I will be there with a present,” the Prime Minister told radio station 3AW of his sister’s upcoming nuptials.

5. In alarming health news it seems that young teenage girls are not practising safe sex. The research released overnight shows that young girls aged 12 to 15 are more likely to test positive for chlamydia than older teenagers and even women in their 20s.

Two year old Xander died tragically

7. In the UK a toddler has died after being stuck between two baby gates, designed to stop him going downstairs.

Xander Stephenson, aged 2, was left unable to breathe when he got his arm and neck wedged between the gates. The baby had been frequently getting through the first gate so his mother installed a second one above it. However just 36 hours after it was installed, Xander managed to squeeze his arm and neck between the two gates.

The bottom bolts on the top gate became loose, leaving the gate swinging and fixed by only two top bolts, trapping the boy between them.

Paramedics were called but Xander was pronounced dead at the scene.

Recording a verdict of accidental death, the Coroner said this was the first time he had come across such an accident.
