Inside Prince George's nursery.

To celebrate his upcoming 1st Birthday, Vanity Fair goes behind the scenes of the little royal’s life.

Vanity Fair have put Prince George on the cover of their August edition with his mum and dad to celebrate his first year (his birthday is on 22 July 2014). Usually the cover is reserved for highly styled photo shoots, not a press shot. But then again, Prince George only does photo shoots for family.

Vanity Fair contributor Katie Nicholl spoke to palace insiders on all things behind-the-scenes Prince George. This is what she found out:

"Nicholl reports that for the first few months the prince cried loudly and frequently, and he was not sleeping through the night. Nanny Jessie Webb tried hard to get him into a routine, but the baby prince, who was still breastfeeding, was permanently hungry."

Prince George only settled down earlier this year once he moved to solids just after 6 months old. Giving mum and dad (finally) an uninterrupted sleep.

On finding a nanny, Vanity Fair reports that Kate and William didn't want to go through an agency to find a nanny for George. So, "Spanish-born Maria Teresa Turrion Borallo was recommended by a friend."

Kate has been busy redecorating Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace - swapping Princess Margaret's turquoise walls for a neutral palette. To add to the redesign, Vanity Fair report that Prince George's nursery has "a white Beatrix Potter-themed crib and changing table, reportedly purchased from Dragons of Walton Street, in London."

Kate Middleton and Prince William chose a Beatrix Potter themed nursery for Prince George

For the Australia/New Zealand Royal Tour, Prince William was nervous about the long flight for little George (plus the hot weather and crazy media frenzy). Also, the royals broke protocol. Vanity Fair reports that "the Queen gave the Cambridges her blessing for them to fly together, even though this was a breach of protocol because direct heirs do not usually travel together."

When it comes to Prince George's upbringing, the royal parents want it to be as normal as possible.

"They take George to play-dates at the homes of friends, among them Kate’s old Marlborough friend Alice St. John Webster, who has a baby several months older than George."

And as for baby number 2, Vanity Fair report that the couple will start trying this UK summer.

And you wouldn't be a royal without a coin and stamp. The Perth Mint and Australia Post released a stamp and coin of Prince George last year for his birth.
