This bridesmaid sets a new bar for dedication to the cause.
The golden rule for how to be a good bride is to not be a bridezilla. To be a good bridesmaid? Well, you’re just meant to not draw too much attention to yourself.
A bridesmaid in the UK has gone to extreme lengths to honour this rule, by hiding her labour contractions as her sister got married. As chief bridesmaid, we’d expect nothing less.
Lucy Morris, 29, told the Daily Express the contractions started early that morning but she didn’t tell anyone so she wouldn’t spoil the day, and also so she didn’t miss out on her sister’s wedding.
I wanted to watch my sister say ‘I do’ and didn’t want to steal the limelight by giving birth. My due date was a week before the wedding so we always knew it was going to be close but I never imagined I’d go into labour while walking down the aisle. I don’t know how I made it through the ceremony, I was in agony.
A few days before the wedding, Lucy did everything she could to bring on early labour by eating spicy food and going for walks but nothing worked. She went into labour at 2am, the day of the wedding.
Bride, Emma Rotherham, had no idea of her sister's agony as they went through the motions of posing for post-ceremony photos. Lucy even managed to attend most of the reception before being rushed to hospital to give birth.
I was halfway through my first mouthful of food at the reception when the contractions got deeper and longer. I was struggling to breathe and thought my waters were going to break.
She gave birth to daughter Izzy 13 hours after labour started. New bride Emma says she now considers her wedding day a double celebration.
This was only ever going to be a double celebration not something that would be taking shine away from the wedding.
This has to go down as the biggest sacrifice a sister has ever made for a bride. And now they have an awesome story to share.
