Because this is what motherhood looks like in Fashion Land.

Model mothers have invaded the Paris catwalk. And they’re almost as beautiful as our own, Mamamia-reader version.

Dolce and Gabbana have used a model who is pregnant on the catwalk in their Milan Fashion week show. Because of Diversity, and stuff. And the world has lost their collective minds over it.

It’s Milan Fashion Week, and D&G, as a point of difference by calling their show “Viva la mamma” and introducing mums, children and a pregnant woman on the catwalk. Apparently “to present a collection that celebrates motherhood in all its stages, shaking the traditional model line-up.”

While it is certainly a step forward, and we applaud any displays of diversity in mainstream fashion, it’s certainly not the first time pregnant models have graced the catwalk. In 2010, Australian supermodel, Miranda Kerr took to the runway at six months pregnant with her unborn son, Flynn. A few years later, Alessandra Ambrosio, a Victoria’s Secret model also showed off her five-month baby bump at the Colcci show during Sao Paolo fashion week.

A haute couture range of clothes being modelled by mamas-to-be is indeed a beautiful thing and a very welcome and drastic change to the type of Size 2 fashion models we usually see at these shows. Then again, are these clothes, designed for a model’s pregnant body shape, really just as unrealistic and unattainable as the rest?

I know when I was pregnant, I spent a great deal of my time in elastic-banded shorts and a shit-tonne of Lycra. Stretchy fabric became my very best friend and as beautiful as this dress by D & G is, it’s still far from something I’d be able to a) financially afford or b) feel comfortable wearing.

Although really, what do we expect? These fashion shows have Kim and Kanye in the front row, in the front row, not Jason and Kylie circa 1987. In reality, it would be lovely to see a bunch of pregnant women in REAL maternity wear grace our catwalks. With frocks and stretchy pants and baby doll dresses we could all relate to.

However, I need to stress that it really is a wonderful thing that big fashion labels continue to branch out and diversify with the models they use on their catwalks.

That said, in the spirit of celebration, I see your Dolce and Gabbana baby pink dress and raise you with the Pregnant Catwalk of Mamamia readers:

We’d love to add you to our gallery. Upload your own maternity fashion photo on Facebook. It doesn’t have to be anything special, just something you found yourself wearing when you were pregnant!

I've had plenty of pregnant friends who all looked great during their pregnancies and could totally wear these looks, obviously not for relaxing about the house or running errands, but for other occasions (work, formal occasion etc) I'm not sure what the issue is.

I quite like this look, perhaps a slight modification to the neckline so the bra strap doesn't show and a more appropriate/better fitting bra could be worn (it's a bit too booby as is and a bit lumpy under the fabric). If I was pregnant and could afford it, I'd go for something like this
