Pregnant Instagram fitness star was banned after a workout video she posted was deemed 'too sexy'.

Ah, Instagram. That digital echo chamber of major double standards. Racist memes? They seem to keep being shared without repercussions. But dare flash your bare pregnant stomach? BANNED.

Brittany Perille Yobe is a fitness model from the US, whose cramp-inducing Instagram account has gathered up over 922,000 fans over the years.

Brittany’s first child is due in February, and she wasn’t able to work out for her first trimester due to crippling morning sickness. Once she hit her second trimester? Girlfriend was back pumping iron. And feeling and looking AMAZING while doing so.

Happy to show off her results, Brittany posted this:

Well aware that the sight of a heavily pregnant woman lifting serious weights can be a little confronting, Brittany captioned the picture with a message for her fans.

“Yesss I am Biggg and Well Aware… but to be honest I truly do not care,” she wrote.

“I have debated sharing this video of my big bare belly in full workout mode because of body shaming comments that I am sure will come. Ultimately, this wasn’t a great enough reason to keep me from sharing and empowering women to love their bodies through each stage of their fitness journeys.

However it wasn’t the body shaming comments that Brittany was (unfortunately) expecting that was the problem.

Less than 24 hours after posting the video, she realised her entire account had been disabled after receiving an email from Instagram.

“Your account has been disabled for not following the Instagram Community Guidelines and we won’t be able to reactivate it. We disable accounts that post content that is sexually suggestive or contains nudity,” the email said.

“We understand that people have different ideas about what’s okay to share on Instagram, but to keep Instagram safe, we require everyone to follow our guidelines.” (Post continues after gallery.)

The community guidelines dictate that there is no nudity allowed on Instagram.

“This includes photos, videos, and some digitally-created content that show sexual intercourse, genitals, and close-ups of fully-nude buttocks. It also includes some photos of female nipples,” it says.

Of course, it’s pretty obvious that in the ‘offending’ post Brittany is clearly not naked and can be seen wearing a sports bra and leggings – the same attire she has worn in many, many of her other posts.

She says she is convinced that Instagram discriminated against her simply for being pregnant.

“All I was doing in the video was working out like I’d done in all the other workout videos I have posted for years. There was nothing out of the ordinary in this one besides my bump,” she told Cosmopolitan.

The magazine reports that while she has posted numerous videos that appear similar with no consequences, Brittany did have one picture deleted from her account last year (also containing now nudity) but maintains she was never told a repeat ‘violation’ would lead to a permanent ban.

After resorting back to her ‘back up’ account, fortunately after appealing, Brittany’s main account was reinstated early this morning.

While losing your Instagram account may not seem like the end of the world, it’s important to remember that Brittany’s business was largely tied to her account, using it to market her online fitness guide and share sponsored posts.

She said during the period without her account, traffic to her website had ‘tanked’ and sales of her guide were down. While posting on her back up account, she said she was trying to raise awareness of what had happened.

“I am certain I am not the only woman who has been shut down for posting pictures and videos of a child growing inside my belly,” she said.
