If you think a series born from a dinner party conversation between Rian Johnson and Natasha Lyonne would turn out to be a perfect television show, you’d be absolutely correct.
The longtime friends and now collaborates have revealed that the idea behind their new 10-part Stan Original Series Poker Face was first developed at an event where the acclaimed creator behind the Knives Out movie franchise and the fan-favourite actress from shows such as Orange Is the New Black and Russian Doll were discussing their love of classic detective shows.
The result is the must-watch new mystery series Poker Face, which is centred on Natasha Lyonne’s character Charlie Cale, a woman with a preternatural ability to tell when anyone, anytime, is lying.
After a murder takes place and a nefarious casino owner (Adrien Brody) and his head of security (Benjamin Bratt, in perfect villain mode) attempt to force Charlie to use her gift for less-than-good purposes she goes on the run from them, in a road trip that allows the series to evolve into a classic case-of-the-week mystery drama.
With plenty of comedic elements thrown in for good measure, of course, which is exactly what fans have come to expect from the work of Rian Johnson and Natasha Lyonne over their careers.

One of the strongest elements of Poker Face is Rian Johnson's signature whip-smart dialogue set in a fast-paced series that races through a new mystery and a fresh killer to be uncovered in every episode.
