You’re going to want to watch this twice.
Channing Tatum, 37, has starred in the video of Pink’s new single Beautiful Trauma and it is everything you could ever want it to be.
The song is about a marriage gone toxic, with both parties desperately trying to keep up appearances.
Pink and Tatum – or Ginger and Fred Hart – are the ‘perfect’ image of a 1950s couple. They have ‘Mr’ and ‘Mrs’ eye masks in separate beds. She does the chores, he reads the paper and drinks coffee. But both of them stay ‘sane’ only through a dark and secret addiction to pills and alcohol.
For such heavy subject matter, the clip is beautifully sarcastic and upbeat.
You see Tatum wake up with an erection. Pink serenades a cupboard filled with pill containers. Tatum use his tongue to lap alcohol out of a martini glass like a cat. And Pink passes out on a bathtub.
All this with the chorus "My love, my love, my love, my drug" penetrating Pink's haunting lyrics in the background.
The segments in the clip are as diverse as they are entertaining. At one stage, Pink catches Tatum cross-dressing and they do a role-reversal routine. In another, he wakes up with his arms and legs bound and Pink is the dominatrix.
The costumes are wonderful - it's all bright colours and 50s silhouettes. And the characters and choreography pay homage to Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers - iconic dance partners from the 40s.
Gradually, the scenes become more and more sinister as the couple become increasingly intoxicated. In the end, Pink and Tatum tuck themselves back into their separate beds wearing their wholesome eye masks, as if nothing had happened.
It leaves viewers with two conclusions:
Pink is an absolute rockstar. And Tatum is... Well, Tatum is fabulous.
