1. Peter Greste
Things are looking for hopeful for jailed Australian journalist Peter Greste with the news that Egypt looks set to deport him.
Last night an account owned by Peter Greste, but operated by others tweeted “The Presidential Decree has been invoked. We are now waiting for respective governments to meet, discuss and negotiate possible deportation.”
The news comes as Egypt invokes new laws whereby President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi can deport foreigners sentenced to prison or on trial.
Greste’s lawyer however has told The Cairo Post that any reports about a deportation order are “nothing but “speculations.”
2. Adelaide Hills Fires
The fires in South Australia have so far destroyed 38 houses and 125 outhouses and sheds.
The township of Kersbrook was the worst hit, with 12 houses lost.
The South Australian Premier Jay Weatherill told the ABC that 416 families had registered at two relief centres at Golden Grove and Willaston and 800 people had visited.
With temps expected to climb again today there are still active fires causing concern. However high humidity should assist firefighting efforts.

Has anyone seen the open post yet? It could just be me with the new format!
I found it - searched open post, got the one from last year, clicked on that, saw that it was a 'social' tag, so clicked on the 'social' tag to bring up a page with all the 'social' items and then had to scroll down a fair way. Not many comments there - it would seem you and I are not the only ones having trouble finding it!
Where is the social tag?
I searched Open Post and the latest I found was 24 December!
It's hard to feel sorry for a cute dog which was left in a public place with his belonging, when we just had the story of an abandoned baby, dropped down a drain and left to stave to death.
Can't you have empathy for both?
I think it's more their wording of the photo as "the most heartbreaking photo ever" that makes one roll the eyes. Yes, we can feel sorry for both baby and dog - but it's hard not to scoff when such ridiculous emotive language is inappropriately used.
