There are some families whose names are synonymous with tragedy. Like the Kennedys. And the Gettys. Today, the Geldofs have taken their distressing place among these famous families with news of the sudden death of 25-year-old Peaches Geldof.
The second daughter of Sir Bob Geldof and the late Paula Yates, Peaches was herself the mother of two baby boys, Phaedra, 11 months and Astala, 23 months. She has left behind a husband, Thomas Cohen and three sisters, Fifi (31) and Pixie (23), and Tiger Lily Hutchence Geldof (17), herself orphaned after the death of her father Michael Hutchence followed by her mother Paula Yates.
The cause of Peaches’ death is still unknown – but authorities say it was “sudden, unexpected” and “not suspicious”.
This means an autopsy will be required to determine the exact circumstances of her death.
In a statement released this morning, Peaches’ father Sir Bob Geldof said:
“Peaches has died. We are beyond pain. She was the wildest, funniest, cleverest, wittiest and the most bonkers of all of us.
Writing “was” destroys me afresh. What a beautiful child. How is this possible that we will not see her again? How is that bearable? We loved her and will cherish her forever. How sad that sentence is.
Tom and her sons Astala and Phaedra will always belong in our family, fractured so often, but never broken.”

How so much tragedy could hit one family is difficult to fathom.
On 17 September 2000 – on Pixie Geldof’s 10th birthday – Paula Yates, Bob’s former wife, was found dead at her home in London after a heroin overdose.
The coroner found that it was not suicide, but the result of “incautious” behaviour. The death of their mother affected Fifi, Peaches, Pixie and Tiger Lily deeply – and in recent months Peaches has spoken about how Yates’ death has shaped her.

It is true that Paula Yates had fallen in love with Michael Hutchence at the time when Bob Geldof was already somebody considered as a "has been" in the industry. But I think that just because they were celebrities didn't mean that the act of fooling around wouldn't hurt as much. Sometimes its the man who fools around and its the woman who fights for the children. In their case, Bob only fought for his kids as he deemed right as Paula and Michael were keen on starting their own family having already had a daughter of their own and planning on moving to settle in Australia. Like what would people have expect, that he'd just allow to be left alone and even send financial support without having to see his kids? In the end, Bob raised his kids in the best possible way and that even included Tiger whom he very much treated as his own. Paula's death while tragic involved drugs which wouldn't have been an ideal for the kids to be exposed to. At least amidst all the tragedies around them, and while it would have been better to have a mother around, the kids were fortunate enough to have somebody stand by them and fight for them and raise them as normal as possible considering that they are celebrity royalties that in itself would have a big impact on the kids upbringing. My sympathies to Bob and the whole family.
Very sad, I remember when Paula Yates and the Michael Hutchence story was always in our magazines, pictures of her as a loving mother to all her girls, so very tragic all of it - Paula was portrayed as the 'evil' woman in the media, Sir Bob being rock royalty he had a fierce rivalry with Michael and never got over Paula leaving him for Michael - but we all know Michael was the true Rock God - super talented and charismatic it was inevitable that Paula fell head over heels for him, they were very much alike. Then they had Tiger Lily and their union was for ever cemented, Michael would really hate the fact that Bob has his daughter - I really think she should have been brought up in Australia with Michael's father, because I worry that she will have even bigger or the same issues than Peaches had! Paula never got over Michael's death she was a sensitive soul just like Michael and you can bet your cotton socks their beautiful Tiger-Lily is exactly the same. They say that when you have your own children, that is when you really need/miss your mother and I think that Peaches was feeling that in a severe way ;(
