Mills is an Indigenous Australian of both Torres Strait (Muralag) and Aboriginal (Kokatha) descent, and he prides himself on his philanthropic efforts and advocacy for Indigenous Australian communities.

"The way that I represent Australia and Indigenous Australia affects other people as well from other cultures," he told ESPN in 2017. "That was a real big eye-opener for me to know that I am doing a good job of what I'm doing and to keep it up and do it the right way."

Mills has become a trailblazer for Indigenous Australians in basketball. He first represented Australian Men's Basketball at the 2008 Olympics, and is currently preparing for his record fifth Olympic Games in Paris.

But that's Mills' professional life. Let's talk about his personal life.

Is Patty Mills married?

Patty Mills is, indeed, married. Mills met his future bride, Alyssa Levesque (now Alyssa Mills) while attending Saint Mary's College of California. The pair were friends for years before their romance blossomed around 2014 or 2015.

Mills popped the question in May 2018, and in July 2019, Patty and Alyssa tied the knot in a lavish wedding ceremony in Hawaii.

Who is Patty Mills' wife, Alyssa Mills?

Beyond her marriage to Patty Mills, Alyssa Mills (née Levesque) is best known as an influencer in the health and wellness field, and for running her fitness and lifestyle brand, 'Strait. The Label'.

Originally from California, Alyssa also attended Saint Mary's College, where she played college basketball and first met Patty.

Strait is inspired by the Torres Strait Islands, which Alyssa did face some criticism for in 2017. When the brand — then known as Strait Swim — first launched, Alyssa was accused of culturally appropriating Torres Strait Islands culture. In a statement to the Daily Mail Australia, Alyssa said that the line was designed to "celebrate" the community, rather than disrespect it.

Mills also came to Alyssa's defence, telling the Daily Mail that Alyssa "she really respects the Indigenous Aboriginal and Torres Strait culture," and said that he was "really proud of her. Despite the initial controversy, Strait the Label seems to have weathered the storm and currently has 13.1K followers on Instagram.

Meanwhile, Alyssa can be found on her personal Instagram, where she posts jet-setting travel, fashion and lifestyle content — and plenty of loved-up snaps with Patty.

Together, Mills and Alyssa founded their nonprofit organisation, Team Mills, which focuses on community support, environmental conservation, and wildlife protection.

"Here at Team Mills Foundation, it is that powerful sense of community that drives us," their website states.

"So when we say, we’re all in, we’re all in. Every single one of us wants to give everything we can — that’s why you’ll hear us say ‘we’re all hands in’. Because we owe it to our communities. Because everything starts, and ends, with community."
