Welcome to Wednesday, which means one thing at Mamamia HQ – Open Post. A place where you can come and share whatever is on your mind – whether it be a bad breakup or that new pair of shoes you purchased on the weekend (or was that two pairs?)
Think of it as a virtual coffee-catch-up with your girlfriends, where you get to discuss ANYTHING. I’ll get the ball rolling.
On my mind this week: Road trip music.
Tomorrow I’m heading off on an 8-hour drive with my parents to Queensland, for my cousins 21st birthday. And whilst I love the idea of wheels on an open road, driving through the country, and channeling Jack Kerouac, music diversity is a huge issue in my family – and when I say diversity, I mean lack thereof.
You see, I’ve inherited my Dad’s taste in music and when we travel the iPod is stuck on three things: Neil Young, The Doors and The Rolling Stones. Whilst this may make me a hipster (or just someone who thinks their Dad has great taste in music) sing-alongs and air guitar moments are always ensued.
But this week Miley Cyrus’ ‘Wrecking Ball’ has been on repeat in the MM office, and as much as it hurts me to admit it – I’ve grown to like it.
Which has made me think I need to shake this road trip up a little in the music stakes. So far I’ve added Katy Perry, Fleetwood Mac, Lorde, Haim and Earth Wind and Fire to my playlist – any other suggestions?
After all, there is only so much 1969 a girl can handle.
Now over to you – what’s happening in your world at the moment?

Well I want to/need to lose weight. I'm 8kg overweight and have been struggling. I'm also on medication which causes weight gain and makes it really hard to lose, so that's a big double whammy. I'm totally fine on the exercise front, it's just my eating habits i'm struggling with (i.e I love bad food and am not the biggest fan of green vegies).
Anyone got any suggestions on how to twerk eating habits to be more healthy without feeling like you're on a diet?
Aside from that, I'm excited cos I won a jelly bean guessing competition! 563 jelly beans! First time I've ever won anything like that. Ironically I don't even like jelly beans so am gonna leave them in the kitchen at work for all to enjoy :)
I stopped drinking soft drink late last year and have noticed a big difference in terms of weight (I'm talking 7-8 kilos), and then have gradually reduced my snacking on sugary-fuelled foods in general since, which has been hard for me coz I have an incredible sweet tooth.
I'm not saying quit sugar, but there is definitely merit in cutting it down. I snack on greek yoghurt, lebanese bread, little happy cow cheeses, almonds etc as well as eating proper breakfasts, lunch and dinner. If I have a chocolate craving, I drink a hot chocolate with skim milk, works a treat btw.
I also use my teeth as an extra motivator for eating good food- I'm only 21 and had to get a filling, and have early onset of decay in some of my back teeth. Biig wake up call! Kinda don't feel like I'm on a diet when I think about my poor old teeth haha.
Hope this has been sorta helpful, wishing you all the best with weight loss :) !
Alcohol makes me put on weight. Fast! If I stop drinking the weight just falls off me without changing my eating habits. I do eat healthy but thats only because thats the food I like. In saying that, I do love some junk but it's mostly savoury foods, I don't eat much sugar.
Use an oil spray instead of liquid oil for cooking.
And don't starve yourself. Eat good meals, watch portion sizes. Eating helps increase your metabolism. Eat lots of lean meats. Drink lots of water, have a big glass before every meal.
Good luck! x
