Open Post: How is the year treating you so far?

The first Open Post for 2014!

If you are just joining us (welcome!), the world of the Open Post is a place where you get to tell us what’s on your mind. Tell us about the lows, the highs, the crazy moments…oh and if you need some advice on life. Or you can be the quiet one sitting in the corner listening to everyone else. That is totally fine.

That used to be me, actually. I used to be a Mamamia addict reader.

But now I am a Mamamia staff member (and still a reader)! I’ve always loved reading Mamamia and day dreaming about working here…so it is pretty surreal to be in the office. While I am still figuring out what I am doing, I’ve come on as a Sponsored Editorial Assistant, and will be working between advertising and editorial.

So what it is like to work at Mamamia? As cool as I thought it would be. People yell at their computers when they read something that upsets them, we giggle about penises and we all sigh in sadness when Jamila asks to turn the TV to the ABC News23 (instead of sneakily watching the muted day time movie).

But there is also a lot of hard work.

For the most part of the day, it is silence, except for the tapping of keyboards while everyone churns out posts in record speeds. Then there is trawling through the internet to find the latest stories of the day to ensure Mamamia readers are kept informed of breaking news. And finally, there is the umming and ahhing about whether a story would be interesting to you, the Mamamia reader. After all, we know how busy you are and don’t want to waste your time.

Besides being excited about working at Mamamia, I am also excited about getting to hear from all of you.
