"Octomum" Nadya Suleman is taking another page from the D-list celebrity handbook, and checking herself into rehab. The mother of 14, who has recently filed for bankruptcy and filmed her first pornographic movie, has entered a treatment program for prescription drug addiction.
Suleman's rep revealed on Tuesday that she had been abusing the anti-anxiety drug Xanax. "Nadya wanted to get off the Xanax she was prescribed by her doctor and learn to deal with her stress, exhaustion and anxiety with professional help with a team of doctors," he told TMZ. "Nadya wanted to deal with her issues and make sure she is the best mother she can be.”
As for the octuplets (now three years old), twins and four older children, Suleman is reportedly dividing up their care between three nannies and two friends. The controversial personality could be in the program for up to 28 days.
Earlier this month, Suleman, 37, was investigated for child neglect after one of her nannies reportedly complained about the children mistreating one another. The charges were dropped, which Nadya celebrated by flashing the audience at a Californian drag show. Is there no end to the bad decisions?
Really, though, it's not all bad. Suleman has used the money from her fledgling porn career to purchase a new house for her family, and has gotten herself off welfare. And by going into rehab, she's acknowledging that she's an unfit caretaker for her children right now — which is a good sign that she's putting their well-being first. Suleman has lost a lot of respect over the years, but as long as her kids are safe and healthy, she's on the right track.
