If you work in an office, there’s every chance you’ve had the weird, slightly awkward experience of “twinning” with your colleagues — that is, rocking up to work in eerily similar outfits without prior planning.

So spare a thought for Channel Nine presenters Amber Sherlock and Julie Snook, whose “twinning” experience resulted in a tense off-air exchange that’s been shared widely this afternoon.

In footage obtained and shared by media website Mumbrella, Sherlock and Snook are seen preparing for the Chat Room panel segment with their guest, psychologist Sandy Rae.

In an unlucky coincidence, all three women had decided to wear white blouses… and so began a rather heated conversation.

"I need Julie to put a jacket on because we're all in white; I asked her before we came on," Sherlock is heard telling producers.

"Julie, I need you to put a jacket on ... Come on, I asked you two-and-a-half hours ago. It’s not the hardest request."

"Amber, I'm sorry, I've been flat out... if it's an issue I can get on out of here," Snook responds, adding that she's actually wearing blue.

"This is not the only thing I'm doing today."

The clip (which you can view in full here) then cuts to black, returning with Snook zipped into a black jacket and the segment beginning smoothly.

It's wince-inducing viewing and a small glimpse into the high-stakes world of live television.

Now, both Snook and Sherlock have addressed their exchange.

In a statement to Nine Honey, Sherlock admitted live TV can be a "pretty stressful beast."

"As anyone knows, it’s never much fun rocking up to work or to a party in the same outfit as one of your colleagues or friends. I probably overreacted with the pressure of presenting a live news bulletin," the newsreader said.

Sports reporter Snook also threw in her two cents, telling Honey she's "good friends" with her colleague.

"What can I say? Amber and I just really love white! ... I really enjoy working with her, News is a fast moving environment and sometimes these things happen," she added.

So there you have it — no hard feelings here. Now, let's all breathe a sigh of relief that our uncomfortable work arguments don't ever find themselves recorded and broadcast on the internet...
