1. Bieber to sue woman who alleges he impregnated her
This was only a matter of time. Justin Bieber plans to take a DNA test to prove he’s not the father of a fan’s baby. The woman, Mariah Yeater, 20, alleges Bieber and her had sex more than a year ago and that she gave birth to his child. Apparently Justin and his team will then sue the woman once paternity (or not) has been tested.
2. Black Saturday arsonists walk free
Two boys accused of lighting a fire that killed a disabled man and wiped out 61 properties have been allowed to walk free from court after prosecutors dropped the charges on account of their ‘mild to moderate’ intellectual impairment. Both boys have an IQ below 60. They were 13 and 14 at the time of the fires.
3. Turnbull savages climate critics
Former opposition leader Malcolm Turnbull, who was rolled in the job due to his support for an emissions trading scheme, has attacked climate change deniers by comparing them to smokers who don’t think it will likely give them lung cancer. “They’re like the guy who gets told by his doctor to stop smoking, lose weight and decides not to do that,” he said. “He met a mate down the pub who said his Uncle Ernie had lived ’til 95 but he smoked a packet every day. It’s ridiculous.” Mr Turnbull referred to a University of Berkeley (California) study which found the Earth was on average 1C warmer than it was in the 1950s. The study, Mr Turnbull pointed out, was partially funded by a family with ties to the climate change denier movement.

I probably have a cold view of Aussies caught with Drugs in Bali..
I don't see why this should be making headlines almost on a daily basis. First of all it is an embarassment for Australia that so much airtime is given showing the gov't working very hard to get Aussies who have broken laws of other countries off the noose... the Schapelle Corby case particularly got me shaking my head every time it came up. The foreign minister of Australia working his ass off to get a drug dealer out of jail - negotiations. This might sound harsh, but I don't this level of intervention is necessary, and actually believe it is disrespectful to the sovereignty of any country to keep doing so. Laws of a country are there to be followed, abide by them when you visit or face the consequences.. it really is that simple. Afterall, its not that hard to follow laws, or is it?
However, Totally different story if one is wrongly accused or hasn't broken the law, or did so without knowing. Julian Assange (wikileaks) is the classic example of an Australian where the gov't should've been proactive to "negotiate" but basically neglected him. It is well known, around the world, that countries like Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore - for their own reasons, have the toughest penalties for drugs in the world - 20+ yrs in prison or the dealth penalty. This is not news - its been the case for many, many years.
This 14yr old kid is sadly a product of an irresponsible environment - the parents have the leading role to play in this. I hope the Courts in Thailand consider the age factor in their approach to the case and exercise leniency accordingly because boys at that age sometimes do really stupid things they later regret - I know I did :) They shouldnt deny him a life by locking him up as they would do an Adult...at least this is how I hope they view teenage offenders there.. It comes down to culture.
Bieber has now joined the list of male celebrities and ordinary men who have had false paternity claims made against them. Other notables include Chris Rock, Keanu Reeves, Michael Jordan, Paul McCartney, Mike Tyson..the list goes on. It is despicable that there're women who can't resist the thought of living the high life and the fame that comes with it, and will play the baby's - daddy card, with no conscience whatsoever.
It particularly upsets me in cases where the man is married with a family. The turmoil that they have to go through before DNA evidence ends the saga which could go on for weeks or months. It can create doubt, unnecessary conflict etc..The girl in Bieber's case will pay a particularly high price in my opinion because Other than the lawsuit, she is now famous for what she tried to do - amongst millions of Bieber-fever female fans! - this could be a nightmare scenario with the barrage of insults.. abuse.. oh my.. there arguably couldn't be a tougher way to learn a lesson.
