Public service announcement: If you’ve got Netflix, check your bank account NOW.

It can’t be true. Not Netflix…

Public service announcement: Netflix – our favourite weekend companion and the holiest of all things entertainment – has let us down.

The US streaming service overcharged a bunch of Aussie and New Zealand customers over the weekend, charging some up to 11 times in one day.

Customers promptly vented their anger on social media, including some whose bank accounts became overdrawn after Netflix took more than their share.

The Fall

Netflix has since apologised and reassured customers the error would be rectified, the New Zealand Herald reports.

“We are aware a small percentage of Australian and New Zealand members experienced multiple credit card authorisations for monthly billing,” the statement said.

Watch these outtakes from a Ricky Gervais ad for Netflix. It’s hilarious. (Post continues after video):

“The issue has been resolved. While no extra money was withdrawn from users’ accounts, it may take several days for the authorisations to drop from users’ bank accounts.”

And some poor Netflix employee has been busy responding to the Twitter complaints. (Note: Copy and paste could speed up that process.)

It’s OK, Netflix. We forgive you.

(Well, I just checked my credit card and I haven’t been overcharged, so I may be feeling more sympathetic than others).

Now, hurry up and put 30 Rock on the Australian catalogue!
