The perfect deodorant has always eluded me.
For me, finding a roll-on that is long-lasting, and that I feel confident to use (as in, not filled with a very long list of strange ingredients I can't pronounce or understand in a simple Google search) has, in short, made it difficult to shop around without going to the most convenient or cheap option.
But this summer, on several particularly balmy evenings, I've felt a patch of sweat growing (here's that word coming) moister and moister by the second beneath my arms. It's not unlike me to sweat – but sometimes, the scent can even surprise me.
I curse the roll-on I've always used and vowed to find something that worked (and felt) better for me. Natural deodorants have been having their moment, but I've often wondered whether they really work?
So, a few of us tried MyAura's natural deodorant range for four weeks. Here's our honest verdict.
Shannen, MyAura Deodorant Stick (Rose Vanilla Jasmine)
As a busy girl, I knew I needed a deodorant that was affordable, pocket-sized and cruelty-free.
In the name of transparency, my underarms can get... smelly (depending on the weather). And whilst I love the summer, and the heat, and how the sun feels on my skin - I don't particularly like the way it makes my skin... damp.
This is why I've always been a little apprehensive to jump onto the "natural" train because I knew taking four to six weeks for my body to adjust to something better for me (and the environment) might be a painstaking task, thanks to how sweaty I can get.
However, when I tried on my own MyAura Deodorant Stick in the Rose Vanilla Jasmine scent, I was pleasantly surprised with how quickly my own underarms adjusted.
What made my experience better was knowing just how nourishing the ingredients were for my skin – aloe vera, vitamin E, shea butter and essential oils. With the product being filled with vegan and plant-based ingredients that I completely understood (and could #GoogleIt easily when I didn't), I felt very comfortable rubbing the delicate product on other parts of my body that need a bit of TLC as well. My underarms had never felt more dry, comfortable and fresh. The deodorant had a beautiful, fresh-smelling fragrance – but if you're sensitive to scent, don't worry! It's not overpowering or too musky.
After four weeks, my skin's odour had completely neutralised and the dampness I was so very used to – but not fond of – was nowhere to be found. I later found out the MyAura Deodorant has an added prebiotic formula that is also natural and aids in restoring the skin back to a normal balance. Which is just, genuinely, an A+ in my book. Love that it's Australian made, too.
I'm running low, so I'm stoked it's just a local Woolies or Coles grab. I'll be heading there when my stick officially runs out!
Valerie, MyAura Antiperspirant Roll-On (Coconut Vanilla)
I've switched to using a natural deodorant and will never go back. But I have to be honest, natural deodorants tend to get a bad rap because they are not "strong enough." I found this to be true only because I was so used to deodorants filled with a questionable ingredients list that were irritating my skin.
As a busy mum and bridal makeup artist, I need to make sure that I smell amazing when standing in proximity to my brides, and I also want to feel fresh throughout my longer days.
Although traditional chemical deodorants kept my armpits dry, they also irritated my skin and made my underarms feel itchy. That's when I started looking at a natural alternative like MyAura Natural Antiperspirant Roll-On.
My first impression while using the roll-on is that it smells amazing. The formula feels lightweight and breathable, and it allowed my underarms to do what they are naturally meant to do, with the prebiotics in the product helping to maintain the skin flora's balance.
After trying their Coconut Vanilla antiperspirant for a couple of weeks, my underarms felt softer and smoother. There was no irritation, and the itchiness I once felt with other non-natural deodorants I had been using before, was now gone. I also noticed that my underarms felt less wet throughout the day.
This MyAura natural deodorant has an aluminium-free formula that contains nourishing ingredients like pro-vitamin B5 to keep your skin feeling smooth and looking healthy, with prebiotics to maintain the balance of our skin's microbiome.
And instead of artificial fragrances, MyAura Natural Antiperspirant roll-on contains essential oils that can help combat odour-causing bacteria.
If one of your new year resolution is to be a healthier version of you, then you need to make the switch to a natural deodorant. Your skin and body will thank you for it.
Margaret, MyAura Deodorant Stick (Rose Vanilla Jasmine)
As an on-road sales rep, the thing I fear the most during summer is not smelling fresh when visiting my customers. Throw in my recent foray back into exercising and my natural state of running warm, I was intrigued to see how the MyAura Deodorant Stick would hold up in keeping me smelling fresh as a daisy (or in my case like Rose Vanilla Jasmine).
So if you want to know how it held up, the answer is... actually, amazingly.
It can take a few weeks for your body to get used to using a natural deodorant but for me MyAura worked its beautifully scented magic from the first few days of use.
My job sees me constantly getting in and out of my car into the heat, usually with very little cool down time between clients. I normally find I’m dousing myself in body spray by lunch time but with MyAura I was still smelling fresh by the end of the day.
I put MyAura through the real test when it came to exercising (an intense reformer pilates session) and despite leaving the class drenched in sweat, my pits could’ve easily been mistaken for having just been rinsed in the shower considering how good I smelled!
As a night-time showerer, I put MyAura to the test too to see if it could hack a day of work with just one application post-shower, and I was very pleasantly surprised that it held up, without any pressing re-applications needed.
MyAura has proved it’s got my back from a day of seeing customers to a killer reformer Pilates session. I would definitely recommend it to others and will repurchase myself!
Shop MyAura from your local Coles, Woolworths and Priceline Pharmacy stores.
