'It's my job to recommend TV shows. Here are the 10 most underrated series of 2022.'

I'm obsessed with TV.

Murder mysteries. Prestige dramas. Sitcoms. Dark British comedies. The lot.

Thankfully, I've made it part of my ~ personal brand ~ so I no longer feel bad about hiding in my apartment all weekend, watching strangers solve murders on the telly.

This means I've basically watched every new TV show that was released in 2022, including all the hidden little gems you may have missed. So, you know, bookmark this page for your future, super-organised self. (P.S. if you'd like to see my weekly recommendations, follow me on Instagram).

Here are the most underrated TV shows of 2022:

Maggie.

Maggie is the kind of TV show that will make you feel good.

The series follows 30-something Maggie (Rebecca Rittenhouse), a psychic who accidentally meets Ben, the man she's supposed to marry, when he asks her for a reading. The only problem is, Ben has an on again/off again long-term girlfriend and Maggie's not supposed to be able to see her own future.

After Ben and Maggie spend a night together, Ben and his girlfriend move into another apartment in the complex Maggie's parents own.

Cue lots of will they/won't they, quirky side characters, and funny one-liners from Maggie's parents.

The Patient.

The Patient follows psychotherapist Alan Strauss (Steve Carell) who wakes up one morning chained to an unfamiliar bed. Alan soon discovers that a new client named Sam (Domhnall Gleeson) has kidnapped him so their sessions can be a little more... intimate.

Sam has a problem, you see. He can't stop killing people and he thinks Alan is the only person who can help him.

A taut thriller, The Patient explores grief, power dynamics, and the struggle between good and evil.

Loot is a laugh-out-loud comedy that will warm the cockles of your dark, dark heart.

The Apple TV Plus series follows the story of socialite Molly Novak (Maya Rudolph) who seems to have the dream life until she finds out her billionaire tech husband John (Adam Scott) is cheating on her.

After they divorce, Molly has to figure out what to do with her $87 billion fortune and all her... free time.

Karen Pirie.

Karen Pirie is possibly the best murder mystery I've watched this year.

Adapted from Val McDermid's series of books, the Scottish thriller follows young DS Karen Pirie (Lauren Lyle). After a true crime podcast about the unsolved murder of a 19-year-old girl in 1996 goes viral, Pirie is assigned to lead the re-investigation into the case.

Three local university students found Rosie Duff bleeding to death in a cemetery after a night out in 1996. While they were the prime suspects, no one was ever charged in relation to Duff's murder.

Now in their 40s, the three former friends find themselves back under suspicion.

Wedding Season.

Wedding Season is like Four Weddings and a Funeral meets Imposters meets... the mob. So basically, lots of weddings but also quite a bit of murder and deceit.

When Katie and Stefan meet each other at a wedding, they have an instant connection. They decide to keep seeing each other, even though Katie is engaged to be married.

Two months later, at Katie's wedding, her new husband and his entire family are murdered.

The police immediately suspect Stefan, while Stefan suspects Katie.

Shining Girls.

Apple TV Plus' Shining Girls is based on Lauren Beukes' bestselling book of the same name.

It's a time-travelling murder mystery (yes, you read that correctly) starring Elisabeth Moss as Kirby Mazrachi, a newspaper archivist, whose dreams of becoming a journalist are put on hold after she survives a brutal attack while she's out walking her dog one night.

When another local woman is murdered, Kirby works with an investigative journalist at her newspaper and together they try to track down an elusive serial killer who seems to defy the normal laws of time.

It's a nail-biting intense thriller and a study of the impact of trauma.

The Dry.

The Dry fits into the TV genre I like to call 'messy British/Irish/Scottish/Welsh women and their funny families'.

The Irish comedy-drama follows Shiv Sheridan as she returns to Dublin after years of partying in London. Shiv is determined to get sober and get her life back on track, if only her family would believe her.

The Dry is a hilarious, poignant and unexpected series about grief, the impact of trauma, and second chances.

Tell Me Lies.

In her first week at college, Lucy (Grace Van Patten) meets Stephen. She's immediately drawn to him, while he broods in the corner of every party.

As their relationship unfolds, their friends navigate sex, relationships, privilege and the mystery surrounding the death of Lucy's roommate.

It's kind of like Felicity meets Normal People but more... toxic.

Tell Me Lies is streaming on Disney Plus.

The Resort.

The Resort is The White Lotus meets Only Murders in the Building

The eight-part comedic thriller follows millennial married couple Emma and Noah, played by How I Met Your Mother's Cristin Milioti and The Good Place's William Jackson Harper. Emma and Noah are on their 10-year anniversary trip when they stumble on an old mobile phone, which leads them to the unsolved disappearance of two young guests from a nearby resort 15 years earlier.

The pair throw themselves into solving the disappearance in an attempt to ignore their own marital issues.

Think murder mystery with a side of relationship angst.

Candy.

On a summer day in 1978, on a church volleyball court in the countryside, Candy Montgomery bumped into Allan Gore. The friends and neighbours had been diving for the same ball and their bodies collided.

It was a seemingly innocuous moment for those watching on from the sidelines, but for Candy, it was a revelation. Allan smelt good. She decided in that moment to initiate an affair with him.

Two years later, Betty Gore, Allan's wife and Candy's friend, was dead and Candy was charged with her murder.

This stranger than fiction tale of how a preppy 1980s housewife came to murder her friend with an axe has been brought to life in mini-series, Candy, starring Jessica Biel as Candy and Yellowjackets' Melanie Lynskey as Betty.

Candy is streaming on Disney Plus.
