The most loved and hated celebrities in Australia for 2015.

One on the hated list is not like the others.

Australians love to love and we love to hate. We love to have opinions on people in the public eye. And now a new study by Pureprofile – commissioned by Focal Attractions – has revealed the popularity of Australian personalities.

The study shows the top 10 most loved and the top 10 most hated celebrities to grace our shores. The biggest shock seems to be that Kyle Sandliands has been dethroned as the most hated Australian celebrity. Although it’s no surprise that the most hated spot has been overtaken by disgraced television personality, Rolf Harris.

Coming in at a close second (for most disliked) is our current Prime Minister, Tony Abbott.

The biggest surprise on the list of most hated is Lara Bingle, sitting at number 10. She's among people like Kyle Sandlilands, Joe Hockey, Pauline Hanson, Clive Palmer and Brynne Edelsten - so we'd say Bingle got pretty unlucky to make that list.

The most loved Australian personality for 2015 is Hugh Jackman, followed closely by Cate Blanchett.

“Those at the top are there because they’re either the kinds of people you’d want to be friends with, like Anh Do and Amanda Keller, or the people you want to be like, which is why Hugh Jackman and Cate Blanchett are firm favourites. They embody talent, success and style, but they’re human and humble with it, and consumers can relate to that," Pureprofile CEO Paul Chan says.

Australians seem to really like funny people with comedians, Anh Do, Hamish Blake and Amanda Keller all sitting in the top 10 most liked. However, funny woman Magda Szubanski didn't make the top 10 with one of the biggest declines in popularity.

There were some surprises who landed just outside the top 10 too. Last year's Bachelor, Blake Garvey came in at the 16th most hated.  And the Paleo chef, Pete Evans who published a controversial book likened to a caveman diet - for children - was also among the most disliked.

The curator of the  Encore Score, Brooke Hemphill, says, “In the two years since the Encore Score data was last collected, there's been some serious movement for some big names. We're most intrigued by the faces to watch such as The Project’s Waleed Aly and Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli. They have clearly made quite an impression on the public in that time.”
