Mia Freedman's surprising money-saving style trick.

‘Coco’ Chanel focused on understatement as her style secret.

Her rule was “before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off.”

Mia Freedman, the co-founder and creative director of Mamamia, on the other hand is often accused of dressing like a 4-year-old.

Sequins, bright colours, patterned suits, leopard print and chunky necklaces are just some of the items in her wardrobe that make up her unique, fun and eclectic style.

In this week’s “Hey Mia”, Mia talks us through her clever style secret and the surprising places she sources some of her favourite items from.

“Look, it’s not for everyone,” explains Mia. “If you’re up to around a size 10 to 12 and if your feet are up to a size 7, check out the teen and kids ranges. And it doesn’t matter what size you are for accessories. There can be heaps of bargains to be found in the kids section, especially with certain labels.”

UPDATE: Since writing this post and making the video above, Mia has continued to pillage the racks and shelves of stores such as Pavement, Witchery and Seed. Her latest find: these beauties from Witchery Kids.
