She may be in the top 10 but that hasn’t spared her from disgraceful treatment.
Miss Iceland Arna Ýr Jónsdóttir quit the the Miss Grand International beauty competition after she was told by the event’s founder she was too fat to win the contest.
The 20-year-old finalist from Reykjavik, Iceland was instructed to eat one meal a day and drink water all evening.
“Stop eating breakfast, eat just salad for lunch and drink water every evening until the contest,” the message allegedly read.
The Iceland Monitor reported the message was given to the former gymnast via the spokesperson for the competition’s founder Nawat Itsaragrisil.
“[The founder] is telling you this because he likes you and wants you to do well in this contest,” the message continued.
Arna Ýr responded spectacularly by dropping out, stating she was proud of who she was and how she appeared.
"Yes, my shoulders are a bit broader than the other girls’ but that is because I was a member of the Icelandic national athletics team and I am proud of that," she said.
The former gymnast went on to share how she felt about the shameful 'advice'.
“If the owner of the contest really wants me to lose weight and doesn’t like me the way I am, then he doesn’t deserve to have me in the top 10,” she said.
“Of course, I don’t take these comments to heart, but to do my best then hear this… Personally, I think I’m fine as I am.”
Miss Grand International beauty pageant holds its final round on October 26.
