In one of the most horrific miscarriage stories we have ever heard, an Indian woman has miscarried 10 babies in one night, setting a medical record.
Anju Kushwaha, 28, lost nine of her unborn children before she even reached the hospital. Then, doctors were unable to save the tenth child.
The babies all miscarried at 12 weeks. The chances of them all surviving the pregnancy were slim but losing all of them was a cruel blow.
Anju and husband Sanjay arrived at the hospital with the nine babies wrapped in a piece of cloth. She was rushed into the operating theatre but lost her tenth child at 12.31am.
The young mother had reportedly used fertility drugs to conceive which resulted in the unusually high multiple pregnancy. She fell pregnant with 10 children however the drugs caused a complication called 'ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome' which led to the miscarriages.
Senior gynecologist Dr. Sumitra Yaday told The Times of India, "It seems that that there was no regular follow-up of her pregnancy after [in vitro fertilization]. At least three offspring could have been saved by reducing the pregnancy."
Nadya Suleman, also known as 'Octomom', holds the current Guinness World Record for the most surviving children delivered in a single birth.
We hope Anju one day manages to fulfill her dream of motherhood.
