Triple j‘s Matt and Alex have announced they will leave their breakfast show at the end of the year for separate off-air adventures.
“It’s very sad … we haven’t been pushed, we’re jumping,” co-host Alex Dyson told listeners this morning.
“It’s absolutely amicable, it’s just deciding that were going to move on to different things,” Matt Okine added.
After 10 years at the station, Dyson said he was looking forward to utilising his passport and tackling his addiction to new Australian music.
“After spending over a third of my life at triple j, I felt it was time to give someone else a go while I travel the world, do a bit of writing and wean myself off my addiction to new Australian music,” he said.
Comedian Okine said he planned to commit more time to his music project, Boilermakers, and focus on TV.
“Before radio I actually studied an acting degree, so I figured I’d wait until my looks and hair had completely deteriorated before moving to the small screen,” he said.
Triple j content director Ollie Wards said the station was sad to see the much-loved presenters go.
“From ludicrous talkback like ‘what’ve you eaten for stuff?’, wtf moments, to learning about space — triple j breakfast has been an awesome ride with Matt & Alex. I can’t wait to see what they do next,” he said.
