Margot Robbie looks completely unrecognisable in her latest role.

A month on from her secret wedding to Tom Ackerley, Margot Robbie is officially back to work, embracing high-waisted jeans and a permed wig for her latest role.

And while normally those things would look terrible and make us cringe in sadness for the days of fashion mistakes past, Robbie somehow manages to make it look socially acceptable and effortless.

Spotted on the set of the upcoming Tonya Harding biopic I, Tonya on Monday, the 26-year-old was taking things back to the early '90s as she reinvented herself as the fallen figure-skater.

The movie, which won't be released until 2018, is set to tell the real-life story of Harding and her failed attempt to ruin the career of her rival Nancy Kerrigan in 1994 (which explains Robbie's outfit).

Both set to compete in the Winter Olympic Games, a hit-man attacked Kerrigan as she was leaving practice and attempted to break her leg. The hit-man was hired by Harding's now ex-husband Jeff Gillooly (who will be played by Sebastian Stan) and her bodyguard.

Incredibly, the entire attack was filmed by camera crews and played around the world.

Thankfully, the attack was unsuccessful and Kerrigan went on to take a silver medal at the Olympics, while Harding placed eighth.

Both Gillooly and the bodyguard were charged and appeared in court following the attack.

Harding avoided a prison sentence but was hit with a three-year probation period, fined USD $160,000 and sentenced to 500 hours of community service.

It's a story so good it could only be true - and one that we can't wait to see told on the big screen, with one of Australia's biggest exports at the centre of it.
